Car Accident in Elk Grove Causes Power Outage
Power was cut to over 15,000 Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) customers in the Laguna community of Elk Grove yesterday.
What Happened?
A car crashed into a power pole along Elk Grove Boulevard in the 8600 block area.
The collision caused thousands of Elk Grove residents to be without power at about 4:40 p.m. on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
It took emergency crews until about 5:40 p.m. to completely clear the scene of the accident.
Loss of Power to Elk Grove Elevator
It was reported that a Board member from the Elk Grove Unified School District was stuck in an elevator for two hours. The incident occurred at the school district’s headquarters located at 9510 Elk Grove-Florin Road. The Board member was finally able to get out of the elevator around 6:30 p.m. when power was restored to that location.
Was the Driver Injured?
No information regarding the condition of the motorist who crashed has been released.
What Caused the Crash?
No cause has been released. A traffic collision report typically takes one to two weeks for officers to prepare.
