Elk Grove Fatal Crash Arrest
I’m Ed Smith, an Elk Grove auto accident attorney. In Elk Grove, on the evening of Saturday, December 4, 2016, officers of the Elk Grove Police Department were called to respond to a reported single-vehicle crash on West Stockton Boulevard, just north of the intersection at Laguna Palms Way. The caller who reported the collision had told dispatchers that a vehicle driving north down West Stockton Boulevard had collided with a chain-link fence and flipped over.
What Happened?
Responding officers arrived at the scene of the accident to find an overturned black SUV leaned up against a chain-link fence bordering southbound Highway 99. Not far from the overturned SUV, officers found a deceased male passenger of unknown identity who showed clear signs of traumatic injuries that had apparently led to his death.
Who Was the Driver of the SUV?
Police officers found an individual at the scene of the fatal crash who told them that he had been the driver of the SUV at the time of the accident. He also identified the deceased man as a 21-year-old resident of Elk Grove by the name of Juan Pablo Guzman, reporting that Juan Pablo had been in the passenger seat of the car, and was ejected from the vehicle when it flipped over while exiting the road.
Driver of SUV gave Officers Wrong Information as to his Identity
During their investigation of the collision, officers accrued information through interviews and review of evidence that contradicted the statements of the individual found at the scene of the incident. The man had apparently given police officers false information regarding who had been driving the car. The additional information that officers gained through the investigation led them to believe that the actual driver of the vehicle, as well as a passenger, had fled the area of the crash before responding officers arrived.
True Identity of SUV Driver Discovered
By further investigation, officers succeeded in identifying and locating the driver and passenger missing at the scene of the collision. The driver was identified as 23-year-old resident of Elk Grove, Ernesto Bizran-Guzman. The passenger, also a resident of Elk Grove, was identified as 19-year old Jose Guzman. Both men were taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail early in the morning on December 5, 2016, and were booked there with charges of felony hit-and-run. Their arraignment was scheduled for the following day, Monday, December 6, 2016.
