What Happened?
Though not all of the details have yet been made available to the public, and the case is still under investigation by the Fairfield Police Department, this is the situation that seems to have taken place recently in Fairfield. A resident of Fairfield driving an as-yet unidentified vehicle approached the intersection of North Texas and Oak Streets in Fairfield, sometime early in the 7 p.m. hour on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Shortly after that, dispatchers working for the Fairfield Police Department began receiving calls regarding an incident at that intersection.

When police responders arrived on the scene they discovered a 48-year-old lying in the street, suffering from numerous serious injuries. The victim had been walking in the street, attempting to cross the intersection in question, when the car of the individual mentioned above rolled through.
Who Caused The Crash?
The driver of the car who hit the pedestrian was identified as Jerry Swearengin, 78. He was arrested by the authorities on the spot. It is suspected that he was under the influence of an illegally large amount of alcohol at the time of the incident and is being held by the Fairfield Police Department on suspicion of DUI, though of course it’s important to point out that the case remains under investigation and neither a cause for the collision, nor the certainty of Swearengin’s drunkeness, have yet been established.
The victim was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the collision. The injuries have been described as “serious” but not life-threatening.
