Motorcyclist Killed in Berryessa Crash
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials reported that one man was fatally injured during a vehicle accident that took place near Lake Berryessa on Saturday, June 21, 2019. County authorities identified the fatally injured motorcyclist as Gene Ogden, a 70-year-old man from Fairfield. According to police, the collision involved two motorcyclists and injured both parties. The second motorcyclist was reportedly seriously injured during the accident and remained in hospital care at the time of reporting. I would like to express my condolences to Mr. Ogden’s family and friends after they have experienced such a tragic loss.
Crash Details
CHP stated that the accident happened shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Knoxville Berryessa Road. A 38-year-old El Cerrito man had been driving a 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle near Spanish Flat when he, for unknown reasons, traveled over the roadway median and into the path of Ogden’s 2019 Harley Davidson. The two motorcycles collided, throwing both men off of their vehicles.
Responders called to the collision scene arrived to find both parties with severe injuries. The El Cerrito man was placed in an ambulance and rushed to the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa to receive treatment. Updates on his condition have not yet been provided by staff at the hospital. Sadly, responders could not revive Ogden, who passed away at the site of the accident.
Investigation
An investigation into this accident is ongoing and CHP officers are trying to understand all of the factors that were involved. Accidents such as this one are frequently caused by a variety of factors that are not the fault of the motorcyclist. These can include motorcycle defects, roadway defects, medical emergencies, and more. For more information contact an experienced attorney.
The Cost of Fatal Accidents
The emotional impact of an accident fatality can be life-changing, and many people don’t know how they will be able to go on without the love and support of their family member or friend. However, deadly accidents can also be a serious financial issue, as well. Families of fatally injured individuals often face a loss of income, inheritance, or household services on top of having to pay high prices for burial and funeral expenses. While it isn’t possible to replace somebody you love, families of people who’ve died in accidents caused by negligence can seek financial compensation for both their economic and emotional damages.
