Benicia Man Identified After Fatal Crash
A fatal accident took place in Sausalito on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Two days later, on Thursday, February 28, 2019, authorities of Marin County Sheriff’s Department identified the fatally injured man as James Robert Morris, a 38-year-old resident of Benicia. The accident happened during the afternoon on a highway location and involved three vehicles, two of which were parked at the time of the collision. California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that they are actively investigating this tragic crash. I would like to send my condolences to Mr. Morris’ loved ones while they are mourning their terrible loss.
Crash Details
Officers have stated that the crash took place on Highway 101 at around 2:25 p.m. Preliminary investigation of the accident had revealed that a woman was driving a Toyota Prius on the highway when she pulled over to the right-hand shoulder and called a tow truck. Morris, who worked for a tow truck company based in Vallejo, was called to help the woman tow her Prius. When Morris arrived, he parked his tow truck in front of the Prius and instructed the woman to stand away from her car.
As Morris was working, a man driving a Chevy Silverado pickup truck lost control of his vehicle and veered into the highway shoulder. The pickup truck collided with the Prius, which pushed forward into the tow truck. Barclay had been outside of his vehicle when he became involved in the crash.
Response
Emergency staff was sent to the crash site directly after CHP was notified of the accident. Medics reported that Morris suffered severe injuries during the incident. Tragically, Morris’ injuries were too severe to recover from, and the man lost his life at the collision scene. The driver of the pickup truck reportedly suffered minor injuries but was taken to a nearby hospital to be given treatment. The Prius driver was not reported to have suffered injuries.
While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, officers have not stated what they believe to have caused the pickup driver to lose control of his vehicle. Collisions such as this can be caused by many different factors including driving at unsafe speeds, distraction, auto product defects, and more.
Wrongful Death
Many accidents are caused by negligence. This means that the accident could have been prevented if one or more people had shown proper responsibility. When this happens, the negligent parties can often be held responsible for the damage they have caused. This can be done through “wrongful death cases” which families can file against negligent parties and/or their insurance companies. Wrongful death cases can help provide families with the recompense they need to pay for losses such as medical bills related to accidents, lost income, loss of household services, emotional trauma, and more. If you believe that you may have a viable wrongful death case, it is important to get in touch with an experienced Benicia wrongful death lawyer as soon as you are able. Having a lawyer on your side as soon as possible can be critical to claiming the payments you deserve.
