Fatal Bicycle Accident on 29th Avenue
Officers from the Oakland Police Department are searching for a motorist that caused a fatal bicycle accident at the intersection of International Boulevard and 29th Avenue on July 12, 2023. The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the Fruitvale District, officials said.

Oakland PD responded to a report of a vehicle versus bicycle collision in the area. Upon the arrival of officers, an Oakland man, age 61, was located at the crash site. Medical staff pronounced him deceased during hospitalization, authorities reported.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Cattleway van and a Hyundai Elantra were involved in a traffic collision in the area of International Boulevard and 29th Avenue. The impact of the collision allegedly propelled the Elantra into a man riding a bicycle.
According to Oakland PD, the Hyundai was abandoned at the scene. The Hyundai driver allegedly left the scene on foot, authorities said. Investigators conducted a records search of the vehicle and found that it was reported stolen out of Fremont. Additional information on the crash has not yet been released.
