Details on the Fatal Big Rig Collision on Stuhr Road

An initial report by authorities revealed that the Toyota was involved in a traffic collision with the Peterbilt truck at the intersection. The right side of the Toyota sustained damage from the big rig, officials reported. The Toyota came to a rest just southeast of the intersection after overturning.

The truck driver, a 58-year-old man, was uninjured in the accident. The Toyota driver, a 22-year-old Riverbank woman, was transported via air ambulance to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries.

Sadly, a passenger in the Toyota suffered fatal injuries. Officials have recently identified the decedent as Holly Mahnke, 21, of Modesto. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the Mahnke Family. All donations will support the Beyer High School FFA program in honor of Holly’s wishes.

What You Should Do After a Commercial Truck Accident

After being involved in a big rig crash in California, it is essential to follow these steps:

  • Contact Emergency Personnel: After you are involved in a crash with a large commercial truck, make sure that your car and other involved vehicles are in a safe place and out of the way of oncoming traffic. Request a traffic incident report from responding officers and ask for their badge numbers. Having a police report documenting the details of the incident, information of involved parties and statements regarding liability is an essential form of evidence in a claim with the insurance company.
  • Seek Medical Treatment: In the aftermath of a big rig crash, even a minor injury should be evaluated and treated. It is crucial to have a medical professional conduct an examination of your injuries and decide on an appropriate treatment plan. Having medical documentation of accident-related injuries will serve as an important piece of evidence to support your bodily injury claim when requesting compensation for economic and non-economic damages.
  • Contact a Lawyer: The insurance company representing the truck driver and trucking company will have attorneys working for them to protect their best interests, and you should too. The legal process may be challenging to navigate for a personal injury or wrongful death claim, and when you are coping with loss and grief, dealing with difficult insurers and defense counsel may not be a priority during this time. That is why it is recommended to retain legal counsel to ensure that all aspects of your case are handled while you and your family focus on healing.

If you suffered serious injuries or lost a loved one in a commercial truck accident, it is essential to know your legal rights. A Modesto truck accident lawyer will have the experience, skills, and resources to help you through the legal process and seek maximum compensation for your losses.
