Officials reported a fatal car crash on Avenue 12 and Road 34 1/2 near Madera on the afternoon of Thursday, June 30, 2022. Details on the Fatal Car Crash on Avenue 12 Near Madera

CHP traffic officers responded to a call of a head-on collision involving three cars in the area. Upon the arrival of authorities, they located two parties lying on the road. Officials indicated that a sideswipe accident occurred between the Dodge and Saturn.

The crash propelled the Dodge, causing it to spin out before coming to a rest on the side of the road. The Saturn veered into the oncoming traffic lane, where it collided head-on with the Chevrolet. The collision caused the Chevrolet to overturn and come to a stop along the side of the road. The Saturn came to a stop in the eastbound lane.

The Saturn was occupied by two parties, a woman and a man. It was unclear who was driving the vehicle. However, both parties were transported to Madera Community Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities indicated that the man sustained bone fractures and head injuries while the woman had also suffered broken bones and a severed left arm. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries during hospitalization. Officials have recently identified him as Nicolas Renteria, 25, of Madera. The family of Nicolas Renteria has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses.

The Chevrolet driver, a Madera woman, had two children in her vehicle at the time of the collision. The two children, aged 11 and 9, and the woman were also hospitalized for complaints of pain. It was unknown whether the Dodge driver and any occupants in that vehicle were also taken to the hospital for treatment of accident-related injuries. Additional information on the crash was not immediately available.

Seeking Compensation in a Car Accident Case

Suffering injuries or losing a close relative in a car accident is a devastating experience. If someone else was responsible for the incident, injured parties and surviving family members may seek reimbursement for their losses through a claim filed against the at-fault party and their insurance company. For a personal injury case, this may include costs of medical treatment, wage loss, and pain and suffering. In a wrongful death claim, survivors may seek costs of funeral arrangements, mental anguish, lost companionship, loss of future financial support, and more.

A two-year statute of limitations is generally applicable to personal injury and wrongful death cases. When the deadline expires, and a lawsuit is not filed in civil court, claimants may lose the right to seek damages. There may be exceptions to this deadline, such as a case naming a government entity as a defendant. Under these circumstances, a notice of claim must be brought no later than 180 days from the accident date. As experienced Madera wrongful death lawyers, we encourage families to act quickly because of the possibility of evidence being lost or destroyed over time.
