Crews from Liberty Fire District responded to the scene and located a car with extensive damage. The vehicle was said to have had flames coming from the engine compartment. The occupants of this car were able to exit, officials reported.

The other vehicle was found in a corn field approximately 150 yards from the crash site. When crews examined the car, it was determined that it was involved in a rollover collision, and no occupants were inside. Officials found the occupant on the other side of the car and performed life-saving measures on them.

Sadly, the driver of the second vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. An announcement on social media by Doug Kuehne, Lodi City Councilman, revealed that the decedent was his son, Jeremy Kuehne. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Jeremy Kuehne and his family.

How Can a Wrongful Death Claim Help Survivors?

The loss of a close relative brings feelings of loss and grief. When it was the result of another individual or entity’s negligence, it may make the pain of that loss even worse. It is frustrating and unsettling knowing that a loved one lost their life in an accident that could have been prevented had the other party exercised due care. If this has happened to a family, they may have options to seek reimbursement for their losses. While no amount of money can ever make things right again, holding the other side financially accountable may provide survivors with a much-needed sense of justice.

When the insurance company representing the at-fault party receives a wrongful death claim, the insurer may make a settlement offer. An accident attorney will determine if the settlement amount covers all economic and non-economic damages. A lawyer will also consider the long-term effects of the death and its lasting impact on surviving family members. If the offer is low, a Lodi wrongful death attorney will negotiate with the claims adjuster. Besides this, a lawyer will present clear and compelling evidence demonstrating the actual value of resulting losses and defend the case if the insurance carrier claims comparative fault was involved.

The proof that is presented when bringing a wrongful death claim is crucial. A wrongful death lawyer will determine the appropriate evidence depending on the facts and circumstances of the case. A traffic incident report is one of many documents that the lawyer will use as evidence. It may provide details about the accident that resulted in fatal injuries. Besides that, it may include an official’s determination for liability. Other evidence an attorney may use to build a wrongful death case may include photographs of the crash site, video surveillance footage, statements by eyewitnesses, autopsy reports, expert witness testimony, family photos, and more.
