Details on the Fatal Head-On Collision on SR-132 Near Modesto
A 49-year-old San Jose woman was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban west on State Route 132. At the same time, a 2011 Nissan Versa was headed eastbound on SR-132. CHP traffic officers indicated that the Chevrolet entered the oncoming traffic lane and into the direct path of the Nissan, resulting in a head-on collision.
After the crash, both cars came to a rest on their wheels along the south shoulder of the roadway and within the eastbound lane. The Chevrolet driver was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of minor injuries. The two passengers riding in the Chevrolet, two Hayward residents ages 51 and 53, were treated for serious injuries at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Sadly, the Nissan driver and her two passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as 40-year-old Lisa Trevino of Ceres. The front-seat passenger in the Nissan was identified as 43-year-old Michael Maul of Salida. The third decedent has not yet been positively identified by officials. Additional information on the fatal car accident was not immediately available.
What Damages are Recoverable in a Wrongful Death Action?
When a loved one has lost their life in an accident, survivors should not have to deal with the burdens that may accompany the unexpected loss. Fortunately, they may be able to take action against the at-fault party based upon the facts and circumstances of the incident in question. Eligible surviving family members may seek the following economic and non-economic damages through a wrongful death claim:
- Costs of medical treatment for the last injury in connection to the motor vehicle collision (this is generally recovered through a survival action filed on behalf of survivors)
- Expenses for funeral and burial arrangements
- Loss of a close relative’s society, guidance, comfort, love, and companionship
- Mental anguish and sorrow caused by the unexpected loss of a loved one
- The reasonably expected value of financial support the decedent would have contributed to the household if not for the fatal car accident
The wrongful death claims process is not always straightforward as various factors may be involved. To learn more, watch this video.
