A family is searching for answers after their loved one suffered fatal injuries in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Oakland. The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. at Vicksburg Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in East Oakland, according to officials.

A preliminary release by the Oakland Police Department revealed that a Lexus and a Mercedes-Benz were allegedly speeding down Foothill Boulevard at the time of the incident. The Mercedes-Benz driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle momentarily before regaining control and crashing into an elderly woman who was with her daughter and granddaughter on their daily walk.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to injuries during hospitalization. Officials have identified her as Santu Maya, age 73. The motorist that left the scene of the pedestrian accident has not yet been identified.
