Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Fay Drive in Atwater
Officials in Atwater reported a recent fatal pedestrian accident at the intersection of Fay Drive and North Winton Way. The incident took place at approximately 6:48 p.m. along the northbound lanes of Winton Way.

According to the Atwater Police Department (Atwater PD), an elderly woman was attempting to cross Winton Way when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. The impact of the collision allegedly propelled her into the southbound lanes, where a second car crashed into her.
First responders at the scene of the pedestrian accident in Atwater performed life-saving measures on the injured woman. Sadly, their efforts were unsuccessful as she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The Merced County Coroner’s Office has recently identified the decedent as Rosa De Sousa, 86, of Atwater.
Officials indicated that the driver of the vehicle allegedly left the scene of the incident. Investigators with Atwater PD said that the suspect vehicle is believed to be a Ford pickup truck that is white in color. No arrests in connection with the fatal pedestrian accident have been made. Additional information on the incident was not immediately available.
