Neighborhood Trick or Treating – Candy Safety Tips
To ensure the safety of all members of your family, it is best to review the following safety tips to have a fun and safe Halloween. Although tampering with candies may be rare, an adult should always take extra precautions by waiting until you get home with your children before eating candy. Be sure to examine all goodies and dispose of any of the following treats:
- Unwrapped or spoiled contents
- Homemade baked goods or items should be thrown out unless you personally know the person who made them.
- Discoloration or an unusual appearance
- Tears or tiny pinholes in wrapper surrounding candy
If you are doubtful of any treats, do not think twice about throwing them out to prevent any food poisoning injuries. Parents should be watchful to prevent choking hazards caused by peanuts, hard candies, gum, and small toys. Remind your kids to never accept nor consume anything that is not commercially wrapped.
