Antioch Man Killed After Car Accident on Highway 4
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that an Antioch man was killed after a car accident on westbound Highway 4 on the night of Tuesday, January 19, 2021. CHP traffic officials responded to a two-vehicle collision on westbound State Route 4 just west of Interstate 680. A preliminary report revealed that 59-year-old Brian Burrow of Antioch was driving a black Ford F-150, and for unknown reasons, his pickup truck crashed along the highway. The black Ford was then hit by an oncoming white Ford F-150 driven by a San Leandro man, causing major damage.
The San Leandro man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Sadly, the Antioch man was pronounced deceased at the scene of the car accident. The release of the man’s identity will be handled by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office. Further details on the fatal incident were not immediately available as it remains under investigation.
Loss of a Loved One
When a loved one is killed in an Antioch car accident caused by another driver, the at-fault party should be held financially accountable for the incident and damages incurred. Surviving family members are often left behind to pick up the pieces while trying to find a way to cover the family’s loss of income and funeral expenses. A wrongful death claim in California allows survivors to seek financial compensation for the loss of their loved one and hold the individual who caused the fatal motor vehicle collision responsible for their negligent actions.

How an Attorney Can Help with the Wrongful Death Claims Process
Before a wrongful death lawsuit is filed in civil court, surviving family members should immediately reach out to a skilled injury lawyer. A wrongful death claim generally requires an independent investigation into the cause of the fatal car accident and how the incident led to the loved one’s demise.
A wrongful death attorney can consult with experts, interview witnesses, and review medical records to determine if there was evidence of negligence on the part of the other driver in the fatal car accident. The lawyer will also need to identify all potentially negligent parties in the wrongful death car accident case. After the attorney gathers compelling evidence to build a strong case for compensation, the lawyer will handle negotiations with the insurance company and defense counsel. If all attempts at a fair settlement fail before the two-year statute of limitations approaches, a lawsuit must be filed in civil court to protect the case from being dismissed by the court for failing to protect the statute.
