Details on the Fatal Truck Accident on Adams Avenue in Fresno County
CHP traffic officers reported that a big rig was hauling grapes when it was allegedly involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle. The 32-year-old man driving the semi-truck allegedly made a left-hand turn out of a field and entered the direct path of a Honda CRV.
The Honda driver reportedly crashed into the axle area of the rear trailer of the big rig, officials said. The semi-truck driver was uninjured. The driver and passenger of the car were both transported to the hospital.
Sadly, the passenger, Agustina Cano-De Arambula, 70, of San Joaquin, succumbed to her injuries. Officials indicated that the driver was her husband. Additional information on the incident has not yet been released by the authorities.
Why Are Big Rig Crash Cases More Challenging?
Most may assume that claims for commercial truck accidents are no different from those involving passenger vehicles. The unfortunate reality is that big rig crash cases tend to be far more challenging than an auto crash due to factors such as:
- More Evidence: The evidence in most cases involving passenger vehicles is limited. It may include eyewitness statements, police reports, video surveillance footage, pictures of the crash site, and car repair reports. Commercial truck accident cases tend to involve many other pieces of evidence that are relevant to the involved big rig. This may include GPS data, black box data, vehicle maintenance records, driver’s logs, and more. An experienced attorney will need to know the whole story of what occurred in the incident. Moreover, letters of preservation of evidence must be sent to the other side immediately before it is too late and evidence is altered, lost, or destroyed.
- Potential Involvement of Multiple Defendants: Most car crash cases involve the motorists affected in the incident. However, truck accident cases may involve multiple at-fault parties. These may include cargo loaders, trucking companies, truck drivers, and more. As such, it is not uncommon for liability to be disputed in these matters. The defendants in a commercial truck accident case may attempt to decrease their financial exposure to the incident by attempting to dispute liability for the crash. Finding violations of state and federal regulations is essential to holding negligent parties accountable in these cases.
