Fatal Vacaville Highway Collision

Police say that one person lost their life and five more were injured during a highway accident just outside of Vacaville during the night of Sunday, May 5, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the collision involved two vehicles, one of which had been driving into oncoming traffic at the time of the accident. The fatally injured person has not yet been identified by authorities of Solano County. My condolences are extended to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one following this tragic collision.

Crash Details

According to CHP, the accident happened on Interstate Highway 505 just north of Vacaville at about 11:00 p.m. A man had been driving a 2009 Toyota Camry southbound on the highway and traveled over into the No. 1 northbound lane just south of Allendale Road. The vehicle continued on for some distance before it struck a 2008 Honda Civic head-on inside of the northbound lane.

Response

When responders arrived at the scene of the collision, they found that one of the vehicles had been completely consumed by fire. According to responders, the driver of the Toyota tragically lost his life at the accident scene. Additionally, two residents of Vacaville who had been occupants in the Honda suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. Three more people were found with minor injuries but were not hospitalized.

Investigation

Authorities closed off highway traffic at the accident scene until around 1:30 a.m. while they conducted preliminary investigations at the accident site. Officers have stated that they believe alcohol and/or intoxicating drugs were a factor that contributed to this accident. No further suspect factors have been mentioned by investigators so far.

Head-On Accidents

Head on collisions are very dangerous. Because both vehicles are transferring their full momentum into the force of the impact, injuries suffered during head-on accidents cause fatal and severe injuries at a higher rate than most other types of collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, head-on collisions only account for around two percent of accidents, they are the cause of over 10 percent of traffic-related fatalities.

Calling an Attorney

After a serious accident, it can be difficult to meet the challenges of everyday life. However, reaching out to an attorney as soon as you can is often a vital part of claiming the compensation that you are justly owed for your damages. The sooner that a lawyer can begin working on your case, the more effective they can be in ensuring you receive payments for hospital bills, funeral costs, lost income, and other expenses.
