Investigation of the Fresno Fatal Pedestrian Crash
Officers from the Fresno Police Department said the driver of the vehicle involved in the pedestrian accident drove away from the scene. Conversely, the driver is cooperating with investigators and did not appear to be under the influence. It is unknown whether he will be facing any charges for the alleged hit and run accident.
Common Injuries in a Pedestrian Accident
The exposure that those on foot have, means that being involved in a collision with a motor vehicle can result in catastrophic injuries. These may include spinal cord injuries, bone fractures, internal trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and more. Suffering any type of pedestrian injury can result in life-changing consequences for those affected.
Pedestrian Accidents and Personal Injury Damages
Drivers have a duty of care to remain alert for people on foot. However, not all drivers fulfill that responsibility. This can result in devastating consequences for a person injured in a pedestrian accident. An injured pedestrian may face costly lifestyle changes and mounting medical expenses. If the pedestrian injury requires extended time away from work to recover, the individual may experience a significant loss of income. Those with permanent disabilities after a pedestrian accident may have to adapt to a new way of life if they are unable to return to work. In these circumstances, an injured walker may be able to recover compensation for those losses through a personal injury claim. As with any case of personal injury, negligence must be proven on the part of the motorist to recover damages.
