Palm Avenue in Fresno Site of Pedestrian Fatality
A 60-year-old man was struck and killed in a Fresno hit-and-run crash on August 16, which occurred before 2:00 in the afternoon. The pedestrian, age 60, was discovered by paramedics with the Fresno Fire Department lying in the roadway at Palm Avenue near Pine Avenue. He was declared dead at the accident scene. The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the family.
Police Seek Driver in Fatal Hit-And-Run
The suspected vehicle that caused the fatality was described as a pickup truck, dark blue in color. Palm Avenue was closed between McKinley and Pine, while an investigation was conducted by the Fresno Police Department to determine how the hit-and-run accident occurred.
Locating a Hit-And-Run Driver
Over the years, my law firm has been successful many times in locating a fleeing driver. We do this by working with police and conducting our own investigation. This is because I believe that no one should be required to suffer financially from an accident caused by another person’s negligence. In the event the hit-and-run driver is not located, there is another way to cover the financial loss caused by your injury.
Using Insurance to Pay for a Hit-and-Run
All California drivers are offered uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage as an optional policy. This policy will cover the expenses of a pedestrian who has been injured or who died due to another’s negligence. If someone else in the household has the policy, it can be used instead. Rates do not increase.
Helping Those Who Are Grieving
It is always heartbreaking to lose a loved family member. Some of the ways other family members or friends can help and offer emotional support in this trying time include:
- Bring over food or send an order from a restaurant. Those who are deep in grief often forget to eat.
- Send flowers or a sympathy card.
- Visit and offer to help in any way but make suggestions. They may include mowing the lawn, childcare or just washing the dishes and vacuuming.
Pedestrian Accident Investigation
When a family loses a loved one or someone is injured in a hit-and-run or for other reasons, the accident has to be investigated. Investigators gather the evidence needed to support a compensation claim placed either by the injured person or family. Some of the ways an investigation is conducted include:
- The investigators perform accident reconstruction. This allows the insurance company or court to see how the hit-and-run occurred and shows fault.
- The police report is examined for mistakes, and the witnesses are interviewed.
- Video footage is sought from nearby road and surveillance cameras. In some cases, the accident might have been caught on a witness’s cell phone.
- The investigators look for signs of government neglect. This may be in the form of a large pothole, malfunctioning traffic signal or poor lighting. In these cases, the government entity in charge of road maintenance may be held responsible.
Once the information is compiled, it is given to our attorneys to construct a strong case that favors our client. It is used when we are negotiating on the client’s behalf with the insurance company. In the event the insurance company will not pay what is needed, the case may be presented in court.
