Fungal Infections After a Car Accident

Car accidents are caused by a variety of reasons and, unfortunately, some of these are preventable. According to the statistics that were published recently by Aceable:

  • About a third of all car accidents are attributed to drunk driving.
  • Another third of car accidents are due to speeding.
  • About 10 percent of car accidents list poor weather as a contributing factor.
  • Around one out of every six accidents list distracted driving, such as texting and driving, as a contributing factor.

These statistics show that the causes of most car accidents are multifactorial. There are different reasons why car accidents occur and some complications of injuries may not show up until days or even weeks after the accident has happened. Sometimes, these complications depend on the setting of the crash.

Accidents in Construction Zones: Added Dangers

When people drive through construction zones, they need to take extra care. There are many dangers that come with driving in a construction zone. Perhaps the most important issue is the additional people that are nearby. Construction workers are focused on their job and often aren’t paying attention to passing cars. Drivers need to reduce their speed to avoid the construction workers and other obstacles. Unfortunately, accidents in construction zones do happen and there are added dangers when these accidents occur. The large equipment can lead to serious injuries including penetrating wounds, bone fractures, and head injuries.

Fungal Infections can Develop

When an accident occurs in a construction zone, a fungal infection could develop. Fungi can be deadly organisms that include organisms such as yeast and mold. When they grow inside the human body, they can lead to life-threatening complications and permanent disfigurement. In many cases, fungi grow by using spores that travel from place to place. These spores often incubate underground, where it is warm. As construction workers drill into the ground, they may disturb these organisms. Then, when an accident happens, the spores are released into the air, where people inhale them. This is how infection sets in. These infections can lead to blindness, brain infections, and even death. Quick treatment is needed to prevent permanent complications from happening.
