Accident Investigation Ongoing in Head-On Collision
The vehicle that remained at the scene of the hit-and-run was a Honda CRV, also with front-end damage. A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the vehicle. No report was issued on whether the injured party in the vehicle was treated at the scene or taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Dangers of a Head-On Collision
A head-on collision is one of the most dangerous types of accidents to occur and often results in severe injuries and fatalities. Because the speeds of both vehicles are combined when they impact, traumatic brain injuries, multiple bone fractures, and injuries to internal organs can happen. These types of injuries can require long hospitalization with resulting high medical costs, the inability to work, and the pain and suffering.
Holding the Hit-and-Run Driver Responsible
Once the hit-and-run driver is located, their insurance company can be held financially responsible, or the case can be taken to civil court. Our law firm has successfully handled many hit-and-run accident cases after the driver has been located. We also have a good track record of locating a fleeing driver so they can be held responsible. It’s bad enough to be injured by a negligent driver, the injured party should never have to bear the financial cost. Our investigators:
- Check the police report for accuracy because errors can affect a claim
- Interview the witnesses to find out if they can identify the vehicle or driver or recall at least part of the license plate
- Check for surveillance cameras in the area
- Perform accident reconstruction
- Look for clues as to the make and model of the fleeing vehicle
Using Auto Insurance to Cover the Coast of Accident Injuries
When the negligent driver cannot be located or doesn’t have the financial means to cover the cost of your accident injuries, you have the option of using your insurance. When motorists in California apply for auto insurance, they are always offered an add-on policy to cover uninsured/underinsured motorists. This add-on policy covers you and any passengers injured in an accident as well as coverage for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Because of the high percentage of uninsured drivers in the state, many motorists opt into taking this additional insurance. If you do not have this coverage but a family member does, theirs can be used to cover your accident injuries instead. It does not affect the policy rates. An injury lawyer can help by arbitrating your settlement for you to help you get the most out of it.
