Wrongful Death and What Can Be Recovered
If you have lost a loved one due to the negligence of another person or entity in a head-on crash or other accident, you may be able to seek compensation for your loss through California wrongful death laws. This type of claim allows the surviving family members of a deceased person to recover damages for their losses and suffering. Generally, damages that can be recovered include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of future income from the deceased
- Pain and suffering endured by survivors due to the death of the decedent
- Loss of love, affection, companionship, care, guidance and support provided by the decedent
A successful claim can provide much-needed financial support for surviving family members who have experienced a sudden and tragic event. However, it is important to understand that filing a wrongful death claim in California is complex and requires an experienced attorney to ensure maximum recovery.
Consulting With a Wrongful Death Attorney
It is crucial to consult with an experienced wrongful death attorney early on to determine if you are entitled to damages under California law and what type of damages you may recover. An attorney can help you identify all available sources of compensation, prepare your case for the court, and protect your rights throughout the legal process. Additionally, an experienced attorney can help you understand the statute of limitations for wrongful death claims in California, which is two years from the date of demise. With the right legal support, you may obtain justice for your family and receive financial compensation for the loss of a loved one.
