Highway 99 Hit and Run Fatality

What Happened?
A fatal hit-and-run accident happened on Monday, February 15, 2016 at about 12:45 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated a BMW SUV sideswiped a Buick. The impact sent the Buick sedan spinning out of control. The out of control vehicle crossed all lanes of the highway before hitting a barricade and flipping. Highway 99 had to be blocked off while investigators and rescue personnel worked at the scene of this senseless tragedy.
Where did this Happen?
The location of the accident was just north of the 12th Street exit along Highway 99 South in Sacramento.
Who was in the Buick Sedan?
Officials said the Buick sedan was carrying four occupants. An 18-year-old female was fatally wounded when she was partially ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Another female in the back seat was also injured. It is our understanding that the occupants of the Buick sedan had been on a double date for Valentine’s Day. They were returning home from the movies when their car was hit by the BMW SUV.
What Happened to the BMW SUV?
The BMW fled from the scene of the accident. Authorities found the BMW stopped at the on ramp of 12th Avenue and Highway 99. There was an occupant inside of the SUV. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot towards Oak Park.
Has the Driver of the BMW been located?
CHP said that 39-year-old Rodney Thurman turned himself in for his role in the Highway 99 hit and run fatality. He showed up at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office several hours after the crash. He was immediately booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a charge of felony hit and run.
