Authorities Looking for Fleeing Big Rig
According to the reporting person, the big rig never stopped and continued northbound along I-5. There was no description of the hit-and-run tractor-trailer except that it had a board hanging off the trailer portion. Information was not provided on whether the injured party received medical treatment at the scene or was exported to a hospital for additional care. The CHP traffic accident unit investigates the collision and seeks the hit-and-run driver.
Negligent Truck Drivers Can Cause Accidents
Truck drivers operate powerful, large commercial vehicles professionally and with certification. Even with this preparation, semi-drivers can make mistakes that result in serious accidents. A negligent truck driver may exhibit the following behaviors:
- Ignoring other drivers’ signals or actions
- Inadequate maintenance and repair protocols and regulations
- Speeding over the posted speed limit or driving too fast for the conditions
- Changing lanes without checking blind spots
- Driving while distracted by a cell phone, texting, eating, etc.)
- Drugged or alcohol-impaired operation of a truck
Trucking Companies and Accidents
The responsible party should be identified when an accident occurs. A truck driver may sometimes be principally responsible for their own negligence. It is also possible for trucking companies to be held liable for negligence. An example of these situations might be:
- Safety standards were not followed when maintaining the truck.
- The cargo was improperly secured and shifted, blocking visibility.
- There was no proper training or certification for the driver.
- An inexperienced or unqualified driver was hired because of negligent hiring practices.
- The vehicle was unstable or had other problems due to overloading.
- There was a lack of safety in the company’s working conditions.
Medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages may be compensated if a trucking company’s negligence caused an accident. To ensure their rights are fully protected, the injured party should immediately contact a qualified trucking accident attorney.
Semi Accident Compensation
If someone is injured in a commercial vehicle accident, they should seek legal counsel to pursue justice against those responsible. A truck accident lawyer with experience handling various cases can be invaluable in such cases. Legal counsel can help you protect your rights and hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions by recovering fair compensation for your injuries.
