Watt Avenue Intersection Collision Involves Hit-and-Run Driver
A hit-and-run crash caused one injury to a minor in Sacramento on March 30. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) police report indicated that the collision occurred around 12:30 in the afternoon. It happened at the intersection of Watt and Marconi Avenues involving a Honda Civic and another vehicle.
Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash Sought by Authorities
After the collision, the undescribed vehicle fled from the scene. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries when a minor complained of neck pain. Transportation to a nearby hospital for additional evaluation was refused. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the crash to determine how it occurred and to locate the hit-and-run driver.
Intersection Dangers
Around 40 percent of all collisions occur in intersections and involve not only motorists but bicycle and motorcycle riders and pedestrians. Some of the reasons they occur include:
- Speeding drivers or red-light runners are common causes of collisions at intersections.
- Drivers who make an unsafe right-hand turn cause many injuries to not only other motorists but to pedestrians and bicyclists. Turning without having a clear view of traffic or looking for others in the bike lane or who are stepping off a curb is negligent behavior.
- Making a left turn once the arrow has turned red can result in a head-on collision with oncoming traffic.
- Those who make an illegal U-turn can cause an accident because it is an unexpected maneuver.
How We Locate a Hit-and-Run Driver
A hit-and-run crash happens in the Sacramento area far too often. We strongly believe that when someone causes an injury to another person, they should be held responsible. No one should be injured and end up having to also assume the financial loss. This is why we work hard to find the fleeing driver and have a good record of locating them. Some of the areas in which we gather evidence are:
- Our investigators go to the scene of the hit-and-run crash right away to begin gathering evidence before it disappears or is covered over by traffic.
- They search for fallen pieces of metal from the hit-and-run crash driver and paint that can help identify the make and model of the vehicle.
- Traffic and business cameras in the area are checked to see if the accident was captured on video, which can identify the car in the hit-and-run crash.
- The investigators perform forensic reconstruction of the accident to determine how it occurred and point toward fault.
If the Driver of the Fleeing Vehicle Can’t Be Found
When the driver in a hit-and-run crash cannot be located, the injured party may still be able to collect the compensation they deserve. This is through an uninsured/underinsured auto insurance policy. These are offered to all drivers when they elect to purchase California auto insurance, and many people opt for this add-on. This type of policy add-on not only covers you when you’re injured in a car accident but also provides coverage if you’re on foot or riding a bicycle. If you don’t have this add-on insurance and another household member does, that can be used. It will not affect the insurance rates in the future.
