Accident on Auberry Drive Reportedly Caused by Teens
A recent hit-and-run crash in Elk Grove left one Sacramento woman with serious injuries. According to the police report, Jasmine French was driving south along Auberry Drive at about 1:00 in the afternoon and turning onto Splendor Lane. This is when a vehicle behind her attempted to pass along the left-hand side and crashed into her car. The individuals in the vehicle suspected of causing the collision fled the scene on foot.
Sacramento Woman Suffers Major Injuries in Hit-and-Run Crash
French’s boyfriend rushed her to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. It was reported on French’s GoFundMe site that she had suffered multiple injuries, including a possible broken jaw and back and neck trauma because of the crash. Officers with the Elk Grove Police Department, along with assistance from an air unit, found and apprehended the two individuals who fled the hit-and-run accident scene. They were identified as two teens, 14 and 15 years of age, and it was reported that one of them had a gun.
Reckless Driving in a Hit-and-Run Crash
Reckless driving has recently become a major force to be reckoned with in the Sacramento metro area. Traveling at high speeds and other reckless acts are part and parcel of what many motorists encounter. Some examples of reckless driving are:
- Speeding: Traveling at high speeds while on the road leads to many accidents that never had to happen. Because of this, pedestrians and other motorists suffer a major injury.
- Running a red light or stop sign: Intersections are the location for about 40 percent of all traffic collisions. This is because a motorist passing through an intersection legally is unable to get out of the way to avoid a hit-and-run crash by a reckless driver.
- Tailgating: Reckless drivers often tailgate another vehicle for two reasons. One is that they are in a hurry and want to show it. Two is that they want to get where they are going faster.
- Improper passing: Passing on the right or without using turn signals is common with reckless drivers.
- Continual lane changes: Weaving in and out of traffic or changing lanes indiscriminately forces other drivers to make evasive maneuvers. These maneuvers are difficult and often dangerous on a crowded highway.
Locating the Offender After a Hit-and-Run Crash
In the past several years, the number of hit-and-run accidents has escalated. Some common reasons for this are:
- Drivers without a license or insurance: Drivers without a license or insurance often leave the scene, so they are not penalized or fined.
- Panicked driver: Sometimes, drivers become panicked after an accident and flee the scene.
- Underage drivers: There are times when an underage teen will borrow the family or neighbor’s car without asking.
- Stolen vehicles: A driver who has stolen a vehicle will often run from the accident scene because they are fearful of being apprehended.
Paying for Hit-and-Run Crash Injuries
Those who have been injured in a hit-and-run accident are often worried about collecting damages if the driver is not located. We help our clients use their own uninsured/underinsured insurance to pay their medical bills and lost wages. This type of insurance is offered to all drivers in California as a way to protect them from uninsured/underinsured motorists, whether they are driving, on a bicycle, or walking.
In the event that the driver does not have this policy and someone else in the household does, they are able to use it to obtain damages. It does not cause premiums to increase.
Investigating a Hit-and-Run Crash
In order to help our injury attorneys craft a successful case for our clients, we send out investigators to the scene of the accident. They obtain video footage, interview witnesses, and review the police report for mistakes. We work with police investigators by canvassing the neighborhood to see if the driver can be identified. Once the data is gathered, they turn it over to our injury attorneys, who incorporate it into the claim.
