Pedestrian on Brandon Way Struck and Killed by Fleeing Driver

A hit-and-run driver fled the scene of a pedestrian accident resulting in a fatality in Sacramento on October 30. The collision occurred near Brandon Way at its intersection with San Juan Road around 1:00 a.m. The Sacramento Police Department received calls about the accident and, upon arrival, discovered a woman lying in the road with severe injuries. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department attempted to help the woman, but she died at the accident scene.

Information Sought in Hit-and-Run Driver Fatality Accident

The accident is under investigation to determine how it occurred and to locate the hit-and-run driver. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the dispatch center at the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 808-5471 or Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-4357. By using the “P3 Tips” app, anonymous callers can also leave information. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information that leads to the identity of the driver, and callers have the option of remaining anonymous.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

Hit-and-run drivers are more common all the time, and only a small percentage of them are ever found. However, my law office has a good track record of locating fleeing drivers, so they can be held responsible for the injuries and fatalities they cause. We do this by conducting a thorough investigation that identifies the vehicle and driver. Evidence that locates the driver and vehicle includes:

  • By going to the site of the accident as soon as possible, our investigators can obtain evidence that may identify the vehicle. This is through dropped metal pieces and paint chips or smears. Because all manufacturers use specific paint colors, headlight and taillight designs and other alterations, this type of information can help identify the make and model of the vehicle.
  • The investigators go over the report filed by the police to check for accuracy.
  • Interviews are conducted with any witnesses to the hit-and-run. In some cases, they may be able to describe the vehicle or driver or even recall at least part of the license plate number.
  • Traffic cameras in the intersection are checked to see if the accident was captured on film. If it was, the film can be subpoenaed.

Filing a Wrongful Death Claim After an Accident Fatality

It doesn’t occur to some families that they can file a wrongful death claim if a negligent driver took the life of their loved one. However, holding the person who took the life of your loved one cannot only hold them financially responsible but can offer a sense of closure and peace that your family member received justice. We at AutoAccident.com have successfully handled many wrongful death claims and may be able to help your family too. We do it with compassion and understanding that your family is grieving and can help take some of the burden from your shoulders. If the hit-and-run driver cannot be located, we can also help by negotiating on your behalf with your insurance company.

Using Insurance to Pay for Expenses

Families suddenly challenged with paying for a funeral and burial plus shouldering losses such as the income the decedent provided can be thrown into a state of panic if a hit-and-run driver was involved. However, if the injured party or someone else in the household carries an add-on uninsured/underinsured insurance policy, that can be used to pay the expenses. Because so many Californians have no auto insurance or are underinsured, adding on this policy is common. It not only covers the driver and passengers but other types of accidents.
