Accident on Watt Avenue Causes Death of Longboard Rider

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman on October 30 in Antelope at about 7:10 p.m. and then fled the scene. The woman who was killed was identified as Kia Goss, age 40. She was riding a longboard southbound in the northbound bicycle lane on Watt Avenue near Elverta Road when the accident happened, according to Officer Greg Zumstein, a spokesman for the North Sacramento California Highway Patrol (CHP). Paramedics arrived to declare the woman deceased around 10 minutes after the accident occurred.

Description of the Suspect’s Vehicle

The vehicle that might have caused the woman’s death is believed to be a Dodge Ram pickup, red in color, and with damage to the grille, headlight and possibly the passenger side on the right front. The vehicle is believed to have been manufactured between 2015 and 2019. Anyone with information on the accident or suspect vehicle can contact the North Sacramento CHP or Officer Zumstein.

Offering Sympathy After a Wrongful Death

Losing a loved one is a terrible experience, but a wrongful death is even worse. Loved ones have no time to say goodbye. They wonder whether the accident that took their loved one could have been prevented. Family members feel not only grief and a sense of loss but anger and confusion. Those who wish to express their support and empathy can help by:

  • Call, visit, send a sympathy card or have flowers delivered to the funeral home.
  • Offer to babysit children, run errands or chauffeur a grieving person.
  • Being a good listener is one of the best ways to help. Talking about a loved one who has died is one of the ways people cope with their loss.
  • Help out around the home by mowing the lawn, washing dishes or in other ways.
  • Send over food, whether it is prepared at home or ordered out.
  • Offer to accompany a grieving person to the funeral home to make the arrangements. This is a difficult chore to do alone, and a friend or family member coming along will be appreciated.
  • Grief does not end after the funeral service. Be there afterward for someone who is grieving and check in with them and continue to offer help.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

Our office has a lot of experience in locating fleeing drivers. In addition to working with local authorities, we conduct our own investigation. This enables the injured person to claim compensation for their injuries from either the driver’s insurance company or in court. Having an experienced injury lawyer to assist and advise you following a traffic crash is important to obtain the compensation that you deserve.

Insurance That Covers Accident Injuries

All California motorists are offered uninsured/underinsured driver policies when they elect to purchase insurance. If the hit-and-run driver cannot be located, this coverage will pay for injuries. If the injured person does not have this optional coverage and another family member does, that can be used. The price for the policy add-on is unaffected. This can also be used in pedestrian, bicycle and other accidents.

An investigation by a Personal Injury Lawyer

Our investigators are thorough and experienced in collecting the evidence to support a client’s compensation claim. They check for police report mistakes and talk to the witnesses. Accident reconstruction is performed and a check made for traffic surveillance cameras that could have captured the hit-and-run accident on tape. Once all evidence is gathered, our lawyers use it in negotiating with the insurance company or in court.
