Pedestrian Struck and Injured at Intersection of Massie Court and Stockton Boulevard

A hit-and-run accident with a pedestrian caused injuries to the walker in Sacramento on March 30. The collision was reported around 12:41 in the afternoon at Massie Court and Stockton Boulevard in the Florin area. According to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), fire department first responders, when they arrived at the scene, saw a gold-colored Toyota Camry flee the accident. It has not been shown whether this is the vehicle that struck the pedestrian.

Investigation Ongoing Into Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

The pedestrian was assessed as having suffered a major injury in the hit-and-run accident and was transported to a hospital for treatment by medics. An investigation into the accident is underway by authorities to locate the driver of the fleeing vehicle and determine how the collision happened.

Pedestrian Intersection Injuries

Pedestrians are the most vulnerable to injuries in any place, but intersections are where they commonly happen, even with designated crosswalks and signals present. Although some of these accidents are the fault of the pedestrian when they cross against the light or step off a curb at the wrong time, most are caused by negligent drivers. Some of the ways in which a hit-and-run pedestrian accident can happen include:

  • The driver runs a red light: Reckless actions such as running a red light or stop sign are unfortunately common at intersections. This shows a lack of respect for others sharing the roadway and often causes serious injuries and fatalities not only to pedestrians but to others.
  • Speeding: A driver who is speeding can more easily lose control of their vehicle or cannot stop in time to prevent a collision with a pedestrian. Because other factors may be in play, such as having no driver’s license or insurance, the accident can easily become a hit-and-run.
  • Making a right-hand turn without looking: Motorists are geared to look for other large vehicles, however, they sometimes don’t keep an eye out for a pedestrian or bicycle rider. Causing an injury to another may tempt the driver to leave the scene, resulting in a hit-and-run.
  • Turning left: Even with a green arrow, a driver is expected to cede the right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Failure to do so may cause serious injuries or fatalities to those on foot.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

My office has a good record of locating fleeing drivers because we comb the area for evidence to locate them. Our investigators look for paint streaks or dropped metal pieces that can identify the make and model of the vehicle. They search for surveillance cameras that may have captured the accident on tape, and perform accident reconstruction. In addition, they check the police report for mistakes. If enough evidence is available, there is a good chance the hit-and-run driver will be located. Then, our injury attorneys can take that evidence to construct a case to hold the driver and/or their insurance company responsible for our client’s injuries.

The Option of Using Insurance to Pay for Accident Injuries

All drivers are offered an add-on uninsured/underinsured policy when they elect to take auto insurance. Many do because of the high number of drivers in the state with little or no insurance. If the injured party does not have this policy and another household member does, that can be used to pay for the accident injuries. It will not affect the policy rates in the future.
