Hit-and-Run Victim Passes Away During Hospitalization
I’m Ed Smith, a Turlock car accident lawyer. A young woman was taking a walk during the chilly nighttime hours of December 25, 2017. A night of Christmas joy and spirit quickly turned into tragedy when the woman was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries during hospitalization.
We extend our condolences to the family members and friends Miss Metzger who passed away in this terrible accident.
Accident Details
A Turlock man was driving his 2000 Toyota northbound along Center Street near F Street just outside of Turlock at about 9:45 pm. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking southwest across Center Street. The Toyota driver allegedly failed to stop in time for the pedestrian ahead of him, resulting in a serious accident.
Victim Passes Away During Hospitalization
Medical personnel was dispatched to the scene of the pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, paramedics evaluated the nature of the woman’s injuries. The woman suffered major injuries and was airlifted to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Officials reported that the woman suffered head trauma and passed away during hospitalization due the severity of her injuries.
Identity of Victim
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of the hit-and-run accident as 20-year-old Jennifer Metzger of Turlock.
Accident Investigation
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively investigating the hit-and-run pedestrian accident. Reports indicated that the driver of the Toyota fled the area a short time after the collision. The Toyota driver was later detained by authorities and booked at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center with a bail set at $25,000. According to booking records, the suspect party faces charges of being an unlicensed driver, having no proof of automobile insurance and hit-and-run causing injury or death. It is not yet known whether the suspect party will be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Hit-and-Run Accidents
Accidents involving hit-and-run drivers have been increasing throughout our state. Reasons why someone might flee the scene of an accident without calling police or rendering assistance to an injured party may include the following:
- Drunk Driving
- Impaired Driving
- Lack of Automobile Insurance
- Unlicensed Drivers
- Outstanding Warrants
- Suspended License
Any operator of a motor vehicle involved in an accident is required to stop, exchange information and render aid to those who may have suffered injuries until officials arrive. Failure to do so may result in serious penalties. If you or a family member has been injured due to the negligence of a hit-and-run party, you do not have to undergo this stressful event alone. Hiring an experienced injury lawyer is crucial in obtaining fair and just compensation for your injuries or the wrongful death of your loved one.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
When someone has been injured or killed by a hit and run driver it is important to remember that insurance may be available under an auto policy belonging to the deceased or a member of their household. For more information, contact and experienced injury lawyer.
Dealing with the Loss of a Loved One
It may be a challenging time to move on with your life while dealing with the loss of someone you love. Coping with the loss of your loved one may be a very traumatic and emotional experience. It is not uncommon for individuals to feel lonely and depressed during bereavement. Bereaved individuals may find coping difficult. Sometimes the grieveing keep their emotions bundled up inside. It is important to note that not every person experiences grief in the same manner and all feelings are valid during this period of loss. Any person suffering a loss may find it easier to deal with their tragedy by creating a support group of friends and family. Creating an artistic outlet to release their emotions and maintaining a balanced diet may also help.
