Accident on Mooney Flat Road Involves Two Vehicles

A traffic collision involving two vehicles west of Grass Valley on March 17 resulted in at least one injury. The accident happened around 12:56 p.m. at Mooney Flat Road and State Route 20. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) accident report said that it involved a Toyota Tundra and Subaru Impreza. Emergency responders with Sac Fire arrived at the scene and determined that at least one person had suffered a minor injury. Both vehicles had to be towed from the collision site. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how it occurred.

Personal Injuries in a Traffic Collision

While many traffic accidents often produce only minor injuries, sometimes the trauma turns out to be much larger than originally thought. This is because, during an accident, adrenaline flows throughout the human body and can mask symptoms that arise later. Days or even weeks after an accident, the individual may find that symptoms of a more serious or even traumatic injury appear. This is one of the reasons it is important to head to the emergency room or see the family physician after you’ve been involved in an accident.

What Are Symptoms That May Arise After a Traffic Collision?

When delayed symptoms appear following a car collision, it is important to see a physician to find out what is going on. Some delayed symptoms include:

  • Headaches: Following an accident, headaches are a common occurrence. There are a variety of causes of headaches, from benign to serious, such as blood clots or head injuries. Car accidents can also result in traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions. Rather than waiting for a headache to subside, see your doctor as soon as possible, so that a serious injury can be ruled out.
  • Neck trauma: During auto accidents, the head and neck endure a great deal of trauma, which causes cervical strain or sprain. While some people experience pain in their neck or head immediately following an accident, others don’t notice it until a few days later.
  • Back pain: Following a car accident, you may experience back pain, numbness or tingling. These symptoms can indicate an injury to the soft tissue, whiplash, a herniated disc or even spinal trauma. You should get checked out before symptoms are so severe that they interfere with your daily activities.
  • Abdominal trauma: Colliding with the inside of the vehicle or trauma caused by the seat belt or airbag can result in trauma to the abdomen. Besides heavy bruising, trauma, especially when it involves pain, may indicate damage to an organ or internal bleeding. These types of injuries are serious and can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.
  • Mental and emotional challenges: A traffic collision is a traumatic experience, especially if injuries occur. However, an accident can also lead to emotional and psychological damage. Symptoms may include depression, sleep disturbances, emotional outbursts, anxiety, and the development of phobias that relate to driving. In extreme cases, the individual may have to seek professional help for symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
