Semi Accident on Old River Road Involves Injury
A serious semi accident occurred in West Sacramento on February 20 that involved a big rig and a piece of farm equipment similar to a tractor. The crash occurred along Old River Road just south of County Road 118 around 4:03 p.m. blocking the roadway. The accident report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the semi went down an embankment.
Injured Party Transported to Hospital by Air Ambulance
The collision blocked the roadway, and a crew with the Yolo Fire Department was called to the scene. An unknown quantity of diesel fuel spilled as a result of the collision. An air ambulance was called to the site of the semi accident, where entrapment was reported and firefighters had to extricate the person inside before they could be transported. An accident investigation is being undertaken by the CHP to determine fault and how the collision happened.
Roadway Accidents Involving Farm Equipment
Roadway accidents involving farm equipment can have devastating consequences. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) 2021 report, roadway crashes involving agricultural vehicles caused 518 fatalities and over 4,700 injuries in 2020 alone. To address this problem, the NHTSA has developed a number of interventions aimed at improving roadway safety for agricultural vehicles and their operators.
These include implementing laws that require farmers to use flashing lights and reflectors on their equipment to increase visibility in low-light conditions, installing mirrors on tractors and other farm equipment to improve drivers’ awareness of their surroundings and reducing the speed limit for agricultural vehicles when traveling on public roads. Furthermore, farmers should receive adequate training in safe driving practices to ensure they are aware of the risks associated with operating farm equipment on public roads.
Establishing Ownership of the At-Fault Vehicle in a Semi Accident
If the truck or farm equipment was owned by a company and operated for commercial purposes, then that company may be liable for any damages caused. In this case, you can file a claim against the company’s insurance policy. If the vehicle involved in the accident was owned by a private party and being used for personal use, then that individual may be liable for any damages caused. In this case, injured parties can file a claim against the driver’s auto insurance policy or seek compensation directly from the driver themselves.
