Intersection Accident on Madison Avenue Between Sedan and Utility Truck

An intersection accident resulted in the injury of one person in Fair Oaks when a utility truck and sedan collided on September 17. The accident happened around 2:00 in the afternoon along eastbound Madison Avenue at Kenneth Avenue. The police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that a Toyota Camry was in the left-turn lane toward Kenneth when the accident happened.

Minor Injury Reported in Intersection Accident

One individual said he struck his head but declined an ambulance and was treated at the scene. The lanes were cleared around an hour later. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to discover how it occurred and to place fault in the intersection accident.

Dangers of an Intersection Accident

Being involved in an intersection accident is common and often deadly. In 2017, close to 10,500 accidents occurred in an intersection. About 50 percent of all serious crashes happen at a crossroads. One of the leading causes of intersection accidents occurs when a motorist runs a red light, and this happens approximately every 20 seconds.

Drivers who are making right or left turns are also accountable for many intersection collisions. Other reasons include speeding through the intersection and not stopping in time to avoid hitting another vehicle, a motorcycle or a pedestrian.

Injuries in an Intersection Accident

The following are the most common types of injuries that occur in an intersection:

  • Cervical strain (whiplash): Since rear-end accidents frequently occur in an intersection, cervical strain results. This happens due to the violent back and forth motion inflicted on the occupants of the lead vehicle. Symptoms often last for six months, however, many people experience stiff neck, headaches, and upper body pain for a year or more.
  • Seat belt injuries: These occur due to the pressure placed on the seat belt due to the impact. As the body pushes against the seat belt, muscle, soft tissue, and internal injuries can result.
  • Head injuries: This results when the vehicle occupant’s head hits the dash, steering wheel or for back-seat occupants, the headrest.
  • Knee injuries: Often, this results from an accident where the vehicle is hit broadside.

How to Avoid an Accident

There are things a driver can do to avoid an intersection accident. They are:

  • Be aware that other motorists don’t always stop at a stop sign or a traffic light and take proper precautions.
  • Avoid a sideswipe accident by not changing from one lane to another in an intersection.
  • Give the vehicle in front of yours time to clear before turning right on a red light.
  • Realize that motorists are not the only people using an intersection. Look out for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • When traffic lights are faulty, the intersection is no longer controlled. In this case, it becomes a four-way stop. It is still essential to be cautious since not everyone knows the laws governing a four-way stop.

Accident Investigation

Intersection accidents may be complex if multiple vehicles are involved. However, our investigators are experienced in turning up the evidence needed to support our client’s claim. They interview the witnesses to the crash, and there are often people who were present at an intersection accident. They look over the police report for errors and perform accident reconstruction. The investigators also look at surveillance cameras to see if the accident was captured on tape.

Our experienced lawyers take over when the evidence has all been gathered. Whether the case is handled through the insurance company or in court, our clients are assured that we do our best to obtain for them the compensation that they deserve.
