Sunrise Boulevard Scene of Single-Vehicle Accident Fatality

An accident fatality involving a single vehicle occurred in Rancho Cordova on December 13 after the driver struck a tree. The collision occurred around 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported the accident on Twitter and said the driver had to be extricated from their vehicle but died in the collision.

Recent Rain May Have Contributed to Fatal Accident

The name of the deceased has not been released pending the notification of the family. Authorities with the Rancho Cordova Police Department are conducting an investigation to determine why the accident happened, however, rain from a recent storm left roadways wet in the area that day.

Accidental Death Causes

Most of the time, a single-vehicle crash is due to driver error. Perhaps the driver was distracted, overly tired, or speeding. However, there are times when death in an accident happens due to an outside influence. These can include the following reasons:

  • Mechanical defect in the vehicle: If a driver’s brakes fail, the car experiences a blowout, the accelerator sticks, or the steering freezes up, it can lead to a fatality in a single-vehicle crash. Retaining the vehicle is important after a collision, so it can be checked out by engineers to determine if a defect was the cause. If it was, a claim may be placed by the family against the manufacturer by filing an auto product liability lawsuit.
  • Government neglect: All roadways are under the jurisdiction of a government entity. However, maintenance can be neglected, which can lead to a fatal accident. Potholes, weakened guardrails, poor lighting, and more can lead to a crash. If it is found that government neglect led to the single-vehicle crash, the government entity may be liable for the fatality.
  • Hit-and-run drivers or road rage: A driver who hits and runs is more common these days, and without witnesses, it can appear like a single-vehicle collision. Those who are aggressive drivers or have road rage can also cause an accident and flee by forcing another vehicle off the road. An injury lawyer can check traffic cameras, perform accident reconstruction and use other techniques to determine if another motorist caused the single-vehicle crash. If so, the lawyer can conduct an investigation to locate that driver to hold them responsible for the family’s loss.
