Two People on Foot Injured in Traffic Accident in South Hagginwood
Two pedestrian injuries occurred in Sacramento on September 23 that were caused by a hit-and-run driver. The incident happened in the South Hagginwood area at Price Court and Rio Linda Boulevard around 7:35 in the evening. When officers with the Sacramento Police Department and First Responders arrived, they discovered the injured pedestrians and that the driver had fled the scene.
Police Seek Hit-And-Run Driver
Police believe the driver was moving at an excess rate of speed when the accident occurred. Both of the injured pedestrians were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and additional treatment. The vehicle that caused the pedestrian injuries was reported on the police radio to be white in color and have damage to its front end. The accident is under investigation to determine how it occurred and to locate the hit-and-run driver, who may face felony charges.
Accidents and Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrians are the most vulnerable when it comes to roadway accidents due to their lack of protection. In many cases, a motorist is at fault for their injuries. The following are some of the reasons why:
- Speeding: Speeders contribute to a high number of accidents that result in pedestrian injuries. When a motorist is speeding, they more easily lose control of the vehicle and cannot stop in time to avoid a collision with a walker or other cars.
- Distracted driving: Distracted drivers are among the most dangerous on the road. From texting and talking on a cell phone to eating while driving, changing a radio station or checking GPS, all of these actions take the motorist’s eyes from the road.
- Driving recklessly: Those who disobey traffic laws endanger others, which can result in pedestrian injuries. Reckless driving can include tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic, speeding through traffic lights and stop signs and others.
- Fatigued driving: Overly tired drivers cannot concentrate on driving, which presents a danger to others. Some drivers even fall asleep, which can cause a severe accident.
- Drunk driving: Drunk driving remains a significant cause of accidents. Because the driver is uninhibited, he/she endangers others without realizing it such as going the wrong way on a highway or weaving all over the road. Lack of judgment, poor reflexes and vision all contribute to the dangers of a drunk driver.
When a negligent driver causes an injury, the injured person often faces expensive medical bills and loses time at work. A lawyer experienced in handling accident claims can help them obtain the compensation they deserve for those losses in addition to their pain and suffering.
How We Investigate an Accident
An investigation is required to provide the evidence needed to support a client’s compensation claim. Our experienced investigators do their best and are highly successful in doing just that. They perform accident reconstruction, talk to the witnesses and review the police report for mistakes. In addition, they search for road and traffic surveillance cameras that could have captured the accident on tape. Possible government negligence isn’t overlooked either. Potholes, weakened guardrails, overhanging limbs and malfunctioning traffic lights can contribute to an accident resulting in pedestrian injuries. Once the evidence is gathered together, our lawyers use it to support our client’s claim with the insurance carrier or in court.
