Common Causes of an Accident Involving Two Vehicles on Rural Highways
Rural highways have their own unique set of dangers, and an accident involving two vehicles is among the most common. Two-vehicle collisions can happen due to a variety of circumstances, including:
- Poorly maintained roads or road surfaces
- Drivers unfamiliar with rural roads and driving etiquette
- Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Inattentive drivers
- Driving too fast for the conditions
- Following too closely behind another vehicle
Two-vehicle collisions can also occur at intersections when one driver fails to yield the right of way or when both drivers are distracted and fail to recognize that they are on a collision course. In some cases, two vehicles can collide if one veers onto the shoulder of the road and loses control.
