Accident Near Seamas Avenue Off-Ramp Involves Hit and Run Driver
Four vehicles were involved in a hit-and-run on the West Side Freeway on May 24 that resulted in injuries. The collision occurred just after 1:00 p.m., south of the Seamas Avenue off-ramp in the HOV lane. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers who responded to the collision reported that the crash involved a Dodge Challenger, Infiniti Q37, and a Lexus 300 and that two lanes were blocked.
Authorities Seek Hit-and-Run Driver
Two of three of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Authorities with the CHP traffic accident investigation division are determining how the accident occurred and are seeking the fleeing driver.
Liability in Multiple-Vehicle Crash Cases
Liability for an accident involving multiple vehicles must be assigned based on who is at fault. The crash may be caused by more than one party, depending on the circumstances. When determining fault, an injury lawyer investigates the collision and gathers evidence to back up the client’s claim. The investigation may include the following:
- Police evidence: As well as any traffic tickets or charges filed, a police report can provide important information. The police report may contain statements from witnesses and drivers involved and any traffic citations or charges issued.
- Witnesses: Eyewitnesses may also provide details regarding the accident, such as how it occurred and who was at fault. Sometimes, they can recall the license plate number of the motorist who left the scene or a portion of it, which aids in the search for the hit-and-run driver.
- Surveillance: Traffic or security video surveillance cameras in the area may be able to show what happened during the accident if they are installed. Traffic videos may also help identify the hit-and-run driver’s vehicle.
- Expert opinion: The evidence may be analyzed and opinions provided by accident reconstruction experts.
