Fatal Orland Hit-and-Run Update
On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Officers from California Highway Patrol (CHP) released more information about a fatal car accident that recently happened near Orland. The crash took place on Thursday, January 17, 2019, and took the life of a pedestrian. The pedestrian was trying to help people who had been involved in a different accident when the fatal crash happened. The driver who struck the pedestrian drove away from the crash. CHP identified the fatally injured man over the weekend. He was identified as Humbert Falcon, a 47-year-old resident of Glenn County. My sympathy is with Mr. Falcon’s loved ones after this terrible incident.
Crash Information
The accident happened on Highway 32 close to County Road P., at about 6:00 p.m., a Honda Civic had been driving north on County Road P. The car stopped at a stop sign at the Highway 32 intersection. The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Corona, began to drive into the intersection and looked for westbound cars on the highway. The woman stopped the Honda with her car partly inside of the eastbound lane. This put her in the path of an oncoming Acura, which could not avoid a collision. The Acura struck the Honda’s left-rear side.
After the crash, the Honda came to a stop in the intersection. The Acura driver was able to keep control of their car and pulled over to the highway shoulder. At this time, Falcon stopped at the accident scene. He walked over to the Honda to check on the driver but saw that eastbound vehicles were not slowing down. Falcon tried to alert traffic to the wreck but was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The vehicle also swiped the Honda before driving away.
Neither the driver of the Acura nor the driver of the Honda was injured during the accident. However, Falcon was left with severe injuries. Medical officials who responded to the crash tragically declared Falcon deceased on-scene.
Vehicle Information
CHP stated that they know what vehicle they are looking for. The car is an early 2000s Ford F-250 Super Duty that has an extended cab. The pickup truck is harvest gold and officers say it has front end damage on the left side. Police added that the damage may include a broken turn signal or headlight.
Anybody who has seen this vehicle or knows of a truck that matches this description should contact CHP. Callers can use the local non-emergency number (530) 934-5424 to report what they know and help officers with finding the missing driver.
Hit-and-Run and Wrongful Death
Hit-and-run accidents can be stressful. Many people affected by them are concerned that they will not be able to recover for their damages because there is no driver to hold responsible. However, missing drivers are often found. Even if they aren’t, there may still be options. When there is no driver to hold accountable, damages can often be claimed through a part of an insurance policy called “uninsured/underinsured motorist protection.” To learn more about these policies and to get advice about your case, call a local wrongful death lawyer who has experience handling car accidents.
