U.S. 50 Accident Occurs in the Slow Lane Near Zinfandel Drive
A collision involving multiple vehicles and resulting in a minor injury occurred in Sacramento on August 9. The accident reportedly involved four vehicles in the slow lane, including a Toyota Tundra pickup and a Honda Civic sedan, according to the incident report filed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It occurred around 4:30 p.m. along westbound U.S. 50 just west of Zinfandel Drive.
Accident Being Investigated to Determine Fault
Sacramento Fire medics were quickly summoned to the scene of the collision to assess injuries to an individual in the sedan, which were determined to be minor in nature. The vehicle sustained major rear-end damage. The road was reportedly cleared before 5:00 p.m. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to discover how it occurred and place fault.
Finding Fault in an Accident Involving Multiple Vehicles
An accident that includes multiple vehicles can cause more serious injuries because each one can potentially be struck more than once. Proving who did what contributed to that crash allows an injured party to file against the driver/drivers who were at fault, so they can obtain the compensation they deserve. Some of the ways in which drivers are negligent and cause a collision involving multiple vehicles are:
- Tailgating: A vehicle that is too close to the one in front of it on a highway can end up causing an accident involving multiple vehicles. This happens when the driver in front suddenly slows down, stops or reduces speed to change lanes.
- Speeding: A driver who is speeding can easily lose control of their vehicle or become unable to slow down in time to avoid a crash.
- Distracted driving: A distracted driver who is looking down to text someone, reaching for a drink or checking their GPS while on the road can cause an accident that involves multiple vehicles. It only takes about five seconds for a vehicle to travel the length of a football field.
- Non-working tail lights or turn signals: A vehicle that has non-functioning tail lights or turn signals can cause an accident involving multiple vehicles because the drivers following behind don’t know what their intention is.
- Drunk drivers: Drunk drivers are a danger to everyone on the road because they may speed up and slow down, weave in and out of the lanes and perform risky maneuvers.
- Fatigued drivers: More of a danger late at night, a driver who is too tired to be behind the wheel of a car is as dangerous as someone who is inebriated. Their behaviors while driving are not only similar, but the driver can fall asleep.
Asking for Advice From an Injury Lawyer
Because of the complexity of an accident involving multiple vehicles and where fault lies, consulting with an injury attorney is a good idea. The attorney can review your claim and conduct an investigation to show which driver/drivers caused the collision. Once the evidence has been compiled, the client can then place a claim with the at-fault party’s insurance company to recover damages. In this way, the injured party can concentrate on getting better while knowing their claim is in good hands.
