American Canyon Man Hospitalized After Truck Accident
An American Canyon man was hospitalized along with two other people following a crash that happened on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. According to information from California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash involved three vehicles, including two sedans and a 60-foot-long semi-truck. The conditions of the injured individuals had not yet been updated by medical officials, but all three were expected to survive their injuries. The crash is currently being investigated by CHP.
Accident Details
The crash happened at about 12:45 p.m. on Lakeville Highway close to the intersection of Stage Gulch Road in Sonoma County. A man driving a Toyota Camry reportedly attempted to make a left-hand turn from Stage Gulch in order to enter the highway’s northbound lanes but stopped when the driver saw that he was entering the path of an oncoming big-rig. Police say that the truck driver swerved, but was unable to avoid the Toyota. The truck struck the Camry before veering right and crossing over the highway into southbound lanes where it collided with a southbound Acura RSX driven by a 27-year-old American Canyon man. After the second impact, the truck traveled off the road and crashed into a nearby barn, coming to a stop.
Response
Accident witnesses called CHP to report the accident, and emergency responders were sent to the accident site right away. Lakeville Volunteer firefighters reportedly found both the Acura driver and one of the occupants of the Camry trapped inside their wrecked vehicles. The two were extricated and transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment along with the Camry passenger. The driver of the big-rig, a 56-year-old Napa man, was uninjured.
Trucking Accidents
Semi-trucks are massive can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. Their sheer size means that big-rigs are very dangerous in the event of an accident and can cause extreme damage in collisions that would otherwise be minor. Usually, these vehicles are owned by a holding company that operates a whole fleet of vehicles. These companies are well aware of the risks involved in running their businesses and typically begin defending themselves from liability right away. In most cases, the company will send a private legal team to the accident scene itself in order to collect their own evidence and witness statements.
Because trucking companies are quick to act, it’s vital to call an American Canyon truck accident lawyer right away following a crash. Having legal representation early on in a truck accident case is a crucial factor in claiming the compensation that you and your loved ones deserve for your losses.
