Fire Caused $300k in Damage to Antioch House

During the late morning hours on Friday, November 17, 2017, an Antioch duplex received considerable interior and exterior damages from a one-alarm fire. More information is available below.

House on Manzanita Way Caught Fire

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. that morning, the Contra Costa County Fire District (CCCFPD) received a call regarding the single-story house fire. They rushed to the scene of the fire – the residence was located at the 2200 block of Manzanita Way. Fire Marshal Robert Marshall stated that while the first engine arrived at the Antioch home, there was a heavy amount of smoke leaving the attic.

Approximately 21 firefighters were called to the scene to take down the blaze, which was extinguished approximately 45 minutes after the one-alarm fire was reported to CCCFPD. Robert Marshall admitted that the duplex was left badly damaged, with a financial loss of approximately $300,000 worth of damage.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Three Occupants Have Been Displaced

There were three people inside the house at the time of the fire – two men and one female – and at least one of them actually lived at the Manzanita Way residence.

The American Red Cross has stepped in and helped in the displacements of these individuals. Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that finds temporary shelter for people who have lost a house due to fire, and they also distribute gift cards that allow them to afford basic necessities.

Robert Marshall said that one of the three people required medical care following the fire, however, it is uncertain if the nature of the emergency was connected to the fire.

Additionally, the 911 call mentioned that there were two dogs in the home, but currently there is no additional information on their condition.

Smoke Inhalation

Suffocation via smoke inhalation has consistently been found to be the leading cause of death in most fire-related accidents, including house fires. When caught on fire, upholstery and other furnished materials release toxic clouds of smoke and gas. When vital oxygen is stripped from the air and replaced with hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, smoke fumes, and other vapors, we quickly become disoriented and eventually lose consciousness.

All fire victims should take the time necessary to recover from any injuries acquired, and this process of full recovery can often be long and stressful.

If you or a family member have ever been injured in a fire, you need to take enough time to properly heal from this traumatic experience.
