Antioch Man Injured in San Ramon Crash

A man from Antioch was one of several parties injured in a recent crash in the San Ramon area. The incident occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. at the intersection of Bollinger Canyon Road and Crow Canyon Road.

Preliminary Investigation of the Crash in San Ramon

According to the San Ramon Police Department (San Ramon PD), a Honda was involved in a traffic collision with a Dodge pickup truck and a minivan. The multi-vehicle accident occurred when the Dodge reportedly broadsided the driver’s side of the Honda and later collided with the minivan.

Officials said the Dodge driver, a 32-year-old man from Antioch, and a 29-year-old female passenger in his truck were hurt. The minivan driver, a 47-year-old woman, was also injured in the crash. Sadly, the Honda driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The coroner’s office has identified her as 56-year-old Susan Guinee of San Ramon. Further details on the incident were not immediately available as an investigation is underway by San Ramon PD.

Common Reasons for Catastrophic Motor Vehicle Accidents

In a lawsuit for a car accident, it must be proven that the at-fault party demonstrated reckless or negligent behavior.  Following are examples of driver negligence:

  • Distracted driving such as texting or talking on a cell phone
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Failure to yield the right of way to others
  • Running a stop sign or red light
  • Speeding or traveling too fast for road or weather conditions

All drivers are expected to exercise due care when it comes to sharing the road with others. This includes other motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. Any driver who disregards the rules of the road and causes harm to others may be held financially accountable for damages incurred. This includes personal injury or wrongful death.

Damages in a Lawsuit for an Auto Accident

A personal injury claim is comprised of two types of damages: economic and non-economic. These generally include past and future costs of medical treatment, loss of income, lost future earnings, and pain and suffering. Punitive damages may also be sought if the incident was caused by an at-fault party demonstrating particularly egregious behavior like excessive speeding or drunk driving.

Just like a personal injury suit, surviving family members may seek economic and non-economic damages for losses incurred. This may include medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of future financial support, loss of care, companionship, and protection, and more. Wrongful death claims can be challenging matters as they involve strict legal rules and time limits, but an experienced attorney can help guide a family throughout the process toward fair compensation.

What is the Filing Deadline for a Car Accident Case in California?

It is essential to keep in mind that every personal injury or wrongful death case is subject to a strict filing deadline known as the statute of limitations. Under the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1, there is a two-year deadline on these types of cases. Therefore, it is critical to take quick action when considering filing a claim for financial compensation.
