Antioch Pedestrian Accidents Injure Two

Two People Injured in Separate Pedestrian Accidents

Two different pedestrian accidents injured two different people in a four day period.

Details of the First Accident

A little after 3 p.m. on 4 August, a passing vehicle struck a 16-year-old girl on W 10th Street near A Street in Antioch. The girl allegedly sustained moderate injuries. An ambulance transported her to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released.

There is no information available about the driver of the vehicle involved. The Antioch Police Department is still investigating the accident. No information about the cause of the accident has been released.

Details of the Second Accident

On 8 August, an unidentified vehicle struck a person at the intersection of Lone Tree Way and W Tregallas Road in Antioch. The accident occurred shortly after noon. Members of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District also did not provide any information about the driver in this accident or the cause of this accident.

Common Moderate Injuries in Pedestrian Accidents

There is no specific information available on the injuries suffered by either victim. However, we know the basic variety of injuries common in these types of accidents from our experience as Antioch pedestrian accident lawyers.

The most common moderate injury in pedestrian accidents is a broken or fractured limb. This may be a leg broken by the impact with a car or an arm broken as victims attempt to brace their fall. Road rash and other severe abrasions are also common injuries.

Pedestrians struck by cars also often suffer concussions and back pain. In the moderate category of injuries, concussions and back pain are not life-threatening.

Status of Both Drivers

Although authorities have not released the identity of either driver, they have confirmed that both drivers stayed at the scene after the accident. There is no information at this time if drugs or alcohol played a part in either accident, but neither driver was charged with a crime at the scene of the accident.

Neither driver suffered injuries in their accidents. There is no information on whether the vehicles contained passengers, but no additional people were transported to a hospital. This means that even if there were passengers, they were also uninjured in these accidents.

Potential Causes of the Accidents

Many pedestrian accidents involve distracted drivers. Drivers eating or texting while driving will often not notice pedestrians in crosswalks. Additionally, distracted drivers may veer onto sidewalks and accidentally strike people. In cases of distracted driving pedestrian accidents, the driver is entirely liable for damages in the accident.

Speed is another extremely common factor in pedestrian accidents. Drivers traveling too fast will also often not see pedestrians. Some speeding drivers may see pedestrians but are unable to stop in time to avoid them.

All of the roads involved in these accidents have posted speed limits of 35 miles per hour, a number of residents say drivers frequently exceed. Therefore, speed may very well have played a role in one or both of these accidents.

About the Roads

All of the roads involved in the accident are residential streets commonly used by commuters hoping to avoid traffic on local highways. They are all well-paved and have good visibility, but drivers often travel too fast to notice changes in the roads like pedestrians.
