One Injured During Arcata Rollover
On Monday, February 24, 2020, one person suffered serious injuries during an Arcata rollover collision. Information from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that the crash involved two cars and that no arrests were made in relation to the incident. The injured individual was hospitalized, and updates on their condition have not been released. However, medical officials noted that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Crash Information
The crash occurred at the intersection of Highways 101 and 299 in Arcata just prior to 4:00 p.m. Details about the events preceding the crash have not been reported. However, CHP indicated that a sedan and a red pickup truck collided, causing the truck to overturn. Pictures taken at the accident scene show the truck upside down with severe damage to its roof.
Medical responders dispatched to the crash scene reportedly extricated the pickup driver from the wreck before determining that they had suffered a head injury. The injured driver was placed on an ambulance and taken to a nearby trauma center.
Arcata Rollover Collisions
According to data released by the NHTSA, rollover accidents are much more dangerous than most other types of collisions. Even though rollovers account for just around two percent of car accidents in the United States, they cause around ten percent of fatal traffic incident injuries. There are a variety of factors that make these collisions so dangerous. However, one of the main reasons that rollovers are liable to cause serious injuries is weak vehicle roofs.
When a car overturns, it often puts a large amount of force on the vehicle’s roof. When this happens, many vehicle roofs are not strong enough to withstand the force and crumple, leaving drivers and passengers with serious injuries that could have been avoided if the roof was designed differently or made with stronger materials. Because auto manufacturers are expected to ensure that the products they sell are safe, these companies can often be held liable if one of their vehicle roofs fail to protect people in the event of a crash.
Traumatic Brain Injuries
Head injuries are liable to affect your brain, which can cause serious symptoms that have a huge impact on your life. Even minor head injuries can make it much more difficult for you to complete normal tasks or perform your job, which may result in mental stress or a sudden loss of income. More serious head injuries can cause long-lasting issues with cognition and mobility and often take a long period of time to heal.
