Driver Flees on Foot From Two-Vehicle Collision
A hit-and-run that resulted in injuries occurred in Auburn on April 11 following a two-vehicle crash. The collision occurred around 8:59 a.m. along eastbound I-80 on the southbound SR 49 off-ramp, blocking two lanes. The accident report filed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the collision involved a Lexus and Ford Explorer after at least one of the vehicles spun out.
Fleeing Driver Sought in Auburn Hit-and-Run
Both of the vehicles ended up facing in the wrong direction on the off-ramp. The driver of the Lexus, a female with red hair and dark clothing, reportedly walked away from the accident scene. The police report stated she was walking with the traffic toward Elm Avenue. No information was released on whether this person was detained by authorities or the extent of injuries suffered in the collision. The accident is being investigated to determine which driver caused the collision.
Finding a Fleeing Driver After a Hit-and-Run
Locating a fleeing driver can be challenging, however, in many cases, it is possible. Our investigators have located a number of fleeing drivers over the years. They do it by conducting an investigation into the accident and collecting the evidence needed to identify the vehicle and driver. If the driver and vehicle cannot be located, there is another option that can be used to recover the compensation you need to pay for your injuries. Among the areas of investigation are included the following:
- Our investigators head to the accident scene as soon as possible after the collision occurred to search for evidence of the crash. In addition to photographing the scene, they search for signs of the other vehicle, such as paint marks and metal pieces. These can be matched to the manufacturer and used to identify the make and model of the vehicle.
- Cameras located in the area, such as those that monitor traffic and ones that are located at businesses or nearby houses, are checked. If the accident was captured on film, it could be used to identify the vehicle and possibly the driver behind the wheel of the car. Camera footage is also useful to reconstruct the accident.
- Any witnesses to the hit-and-run are interviewed by the investigators. Some can identify the vehicle, while others might be able to describe the driver. In some cases, a witness can either remember at least part of the license plate number or filmed the hit-and-run as it happened on their cell phone.
- The investigators perform accident reconstruction. While this won’t tell them much about the vehicle and hit-and-run driver, it does illustrate how the collision occurred and often shows which driver was at fault.
When all the evidence has been compiled, it is then given to our injury lawyers. They use this evidence to construct a strong case to support our client’s claim for compensation.
Insurance Coverage Can Pay for Accident Injuries
When California drivers first purchase car insurance, they are always offered an add-on policy to cover motorists who are uninsured/underinsured. Many Californians have taken this policy due to the high number of motorists in the state who are either uninsured or underinsured. When the injured person does not have this policy but a family member does, their coverage can be used to pay for medical expenses. It does not affect the future rates.
