Accident on Bell Road off-Ramp Involves Pickup Pulling Trailer
An injury accident was reported in Auburn on January 28 when a pickup pulling a trailer experienced a rollover. The collision occurred around 12:43 p.m. along the eastbound Bell Road off-ramp just west of I-80 eastbound. The accident report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a Chevy 2500 pulling a trailer with a bobcat on it overturned and was blocking the number two lane on the off-ramp.
Injury Accident Being Investigated
A tow truck was called to right the trailer so traffic could resume. A minor injury was reported in the crash. The CHP is investigating to determine why the vehicle and trailer were overturned. It is unknown at this time whether another vehicle was involved in the collision.
Injury Accident Involving Rollovers
Nearly 35 percent of all fatalities result from rollovers, which account for about 30 percent of all types of injury accidents. Rollover accidents represent the second-highest risk of injury and death among all traffic collisions after head-on collisions. Rollovers are more likely in certain types of vehicles, such as SUVs and light trucks or vans. Single vehicles are most often involved in rollovers. These factors can increase the risk of injuries from a rollover:
- As a result of not wearing a seatbelt, the driver is ejected from the vehicle. It may cause him/her to be hit by another vehicle while on the road.
- A faulty seatbelt may cause the driver to be thrown from the vehicle when the restraint snaps open due to the impact.
- Those inside a vehicle may be trapped if the roof collapses from a rollover. Collisions such as this are known as crushed roof accidents. A vehicle’s roof and supporting structures fail to withstand the weight of the car when the manufacturer fails to design the auto properly. This is one of the reasons it is important to keep a vehicle following an injury accident, so it can be examined for roof crush.
Rollover Accidents and Their Causes
In most cases, rollovers are caused by the tires hitting a bump in the road, taking a hard hit, or slipping on soft soil. The result is usually a rolling or sideways motion of the vehicle. The following factors may cause a rollover accident:
- A blowout or tread separation on a faulty tire can result in a rollover injury accident. The ability of the tires to grip the road determines the stability of the vehicle.
- Rollover accidents are also caused by dangerous road conditions due to lack of maintenance. This includes poor road design, potholes, debris in the roadway, and other problems. In many cases, warning signs that indicate a driver should reduce speed or are approaching a curve are absent.
- Many rollovers are caused by driver error, such as distracted driving and speeding.
- Vehicles that are designed incorrectly, such as those with a weakened roof or support structure, end up with a crushed roof.
