Audi Announces Integrated Toll Module Technology

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. The German luxury automaker, Audi, has recently announced that they will be offering new vehicles with built-in toll transponders. These integrated transponders are intended to work with multiple tolling agencies as well as making seamless billing to a driver’s account. To learn more about this fascinating device, please read our informative article below.

What is an Integrated Toll Module?

The Integrated Toll Module (ITM) is a special device that lies inside the rear-view mirror of a vehicle. The incorporation of the ITM device in Audi vehicles are intended to free up windshield space by eliminating the use of mounted toll transponders, such as FasTrak, and can be accessed through the infotainment screen. The ITM device will be compatible with toll roads in the United States as well as Mexico and Canada. The system allows multiple tolling agencies to bill on a single account rather than multiple accounts, easing the stresses of a driver dealing with several toll billing accounts. Additionally, the ITM device is also compatible with High Occupancy/Toll (HOT) and High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) charging systems in some states.

Who is the ITM Device Supplier?

According to news reports, Audi is the first automaker to introduce integrated vehicle toll payment technology. The ITM device was developed by the Gentex Corporation for Audi. This corporation also supplies automatic-dimming mirrors for Audi and other manufacturers.

Which Vehicles?

The ITM device is expected to be standard equipment on certain Audi models coming later this year. However, Audi has not yet announced which models will include the ITM device.
