Auto Accident Fatally Injures Three Near Lodi
I’m Ed Smith, a Lodi personal injury lawyer. An auto accident involving two vehicles occurred west of Lodi on the night of Saturday, December 16, 2017. The accident, devastatingly, caused three parties to pass away due to the severity of their injuries.
We would like to send our condolences to the friends and family of the three parties that lost their lives in this senseless accident.
What Happened?
A 2008 Mercedes-Benz was traveling eastbound along Highway 12 in the vicinity of Little Potato Slough Road at approximately 9:00 pm. At the same time, a 2004 Mercury carrying five occupants was traveling behind the Mercedes-Benz. For unknown reasons, the Mercury allegedly attempted to overtake the Mercedes-Benz along the shoulder of the roadway. The driver of the Mercury tried to correct their vehicle when it veered off the road, but struck the Mercedes-Benz. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to strike a temporary concrete wall and lose control. The Mercedes-Benz traveled down and embankment and came to a rest in an irrigation ditch. The Mercury came to a rest on its roof and submerged in an irrigation ditch after overturning multiple times.
Nature of Injuries
The 55-year-old Woodbridge man driving the Mercedes-Benz was able to safely escape following the auto accident. It is not yet known whether he was hospitalized for his injuries. The 35-year-old Lodi man driving the Mercury and his 10-year-old son were able to exit the vehicle on their own but reportedly suffered major injuries. The three other occupants of the Mercury, a 34-year-old woman, a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, sadly, passed away due to the grave nature of their injuries.
Identity of Victims
The identity of the victims has not yet been released by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.
Cause of Auto Accident
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has not yet decided a cause of the auto accident due to pending investigation. Authorities do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors in the fatal collision.
