Auto Accident in Chico Causes Injuries
At least one person suffered injuries during an auto accident in Chico that occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. According to officers from the Chico area California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash involved one vehicle. So far, reports regarding how many people were injured and the severity of their trauma have not been released. The crash remains under an active CHP investigation.
Crash Details
The collision occurred at around 8:23 p.m. on W East Avenue at the intersection of Guynn Avenue outside of the Chico Masonic Center on the northwestern side of town. Police indicated that a vehicle’s tires may have been popped by debris in the roadway. The wrecked vehicle was reportedly blocking the #2 eastbound lane of W East Avenue.
Responders were dispatched to the site immediately and arrived at 8:31 p.m. CHP reports indicate that at least one person involved in the crash suffered significant injuries requiring medical assistance. Responders reportedly did not leave the accident scene until 11:03 p.m.
Investigation
As the investigation continues, police have indicated that DUI and roadway defects were both being investigated as possible causes of the crash. Single-vehicle collisions are common and can happen for more than one reason. In many cases, accidents are caused by things that drivers are unable to reasonably control, such as the state of the road or defective car parts.
Roadway Defects and Government Liability
Government bodies responsible for maintaining roadways are expected to ensure that roads are safe for the public to use.
