Bay Area Crash Kills Elk Grove Teen
I’m Ed Smith, an Elk Grove Auto Accident Lawyer. A teenage boy from Elk Grove passed away due to a rollover car accident on the night of Friday, July 29, 2016.
What Happened?
Officials from the California Highway Patrol responded to a crash that occurred in Redwood City on the off-ramp for Whipple Avenue on Highway 101 South. The teenage boy was 17 years old. Sadly, he was ejected from a 2004 Buick sedan.
California Highway Patrol Investigation
Authorities investigating the crash believe speed was a factor leading up to the collision. Reports state that the Buick was driving at an unsafe speed in the far left-hand lane when the driver attempted to merge through all lanes of traffic to exit by way of Whipple Avenue. The Buick struck a 2003 Toyota sport utility vehicle which caused the driver of the Buick to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the Buick flipped over multiple times during which the 17-year-old Elk Grove boy was ejected from the vehicle.
Bay Area Crash Aftermath
All of the occupants in the involved vehicles were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The motorist of the Toyota did not sustain any injuries and the vehicle received only a small amount of body damage. The passenger and driver of the Buick sustained minor injuries. The 17-year-old boy from Elk Grove that was ejected was transported to Stanford Hospital where he passed away.
California Highway Patrol Public Announcement
California Highway Patrol officers have been investigating and should release a report of their findings soon. Neither drugs nor alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the crash. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Officer Eric Lovejoy at (650) 369-6261 with any information they may have pertaining to the crash.
Independent Investigations
Sometimes traffic collisions reports can be inconclusive or in error. This often leaves the family and friends of the deceased with many unanswered questions. It is very important to have an independent investigation performed by an experienced auto accident attorney. Sometimes, in rollover crashes, the roof caves in and the front or back windshield or doors burst open as the roof hits the ground. This deformity changes the shape of the car, causing wide gaps, that can cause the occupant inside to be ejected from the vehicle. A good attorney knows to check for auto defects that might have caused or contributed to your loved ones death. Some auto manufacturers have failed to make relatively inexpensive modifications to their vehicles that would improve the roof compartment structure and thus save lives.
