Accident on 66th Avenue Involves Bicycle Rider and Motor Vehicle
A bicycle collision with a motor vehicle caused the rider injuries on April 22 in Sacramento. The collision happened in the Florin area at around 11:41 in the morning at the intersection of 66th Avenue and Florin Mall Drive. The police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that minor injuries were suffered by the bicycle rider as a result of the collision.
Negligent Drivers Often Cause a Bicycle Collision
Motorists are attuned to watching out for other drivers. However, they often miss seeing pedestrians, bicyclists, and those on motorcycles or other smaller vehicles. Because of this, they are a major cause of accidents. Some of the ways in which a motorist is negligent and strikes a bicyclist include:
- A driver gets too close to a bicyclist, ignoring California’s three-foot rule. This violation of California law can cause serious injuries or fatalities.
- Improper merging into the bike lane without looking to ensure the way is clear is a common cause of a bicycle collision.
- Dooring accidents can be caused by a negligent driver or another passenger in the vehicle. When someone is parked at a curb or other location and opens the car door without looking, it can result in injuries, especially since the bicycle rider may be thrown onto the ground.
- Distracted driving by texting or talking on a cell phone can make a motorist remove their eyes from the road or miss seeing a rider, resulting in a bicycle collision.
- Speeding by a motorist means that more time is required to stop. Even a low-speed crash can result in serious injuries to a bicycle rider.
- Running a red light can cause a bicycle collision if the rider is crossing the street at the same time.
- Drunk driving is a danger to everyone sharing the roadway because the driver’s eyesight is affected, and their reflexes are slowed, which can cause an accident.
- Fatigued driving, especially at night, can mean the driver is focused on reaching their destination, which can cause a bicycle collision.
Recovering Damages in a Bicycle Collision
Bicycle riders have the same privileges as others who use the roadways around Sacramento. When a negligent motorist causes a bicycle collision, the at-fault party can be held responsible financially for the damage they have caused. By seeking compensation, the injured rider can avoid the high cost of their medical care and be reimbursed for their lost wages and the pain and suffering they have endured.
Gathering Evidence Following an Accident
Over the years, our personal injury attorneys have helped many Sacramentans and others from Northern California get the compensation they deserve following a bicycle collision. Our investigators are experienced in gathering the evidence needed to support our client’s claim, including:
- The investigators collect evidence at the accident site, including photographing paint and skid marks as well as broken metal pieces and other damage caused by the bike collision.
- Accident reconstruction is performed, which shows how the collision happened and who was at fault.
- The police report is checked for mistakes, and witnesses are interviewed.
- Traffic surveillance and other cameras in the area are checked to see if the crash was captured as it happened.
Our injury lawyers take the gathered evidence and use it to construct a robust case that supports our client’s claim.
